HydroQual developed a data management system for a New Jersey Brownfield site. The site investigation provided analytical data including four to five soil samples from each of over 200 borings. A Microsoft Access database was set up to allow the direct import of laboratory electronic data. The database was then linked to a stand-alone GIS application that allowed users to click on any soil boring location to obtain more detailed information such as the total VOC concentration for a given depth interval, the concentration of individual compounds, graphical representations of concentration with depth, etc. To expedite the use of this program, the application was electronically mailed to selected users as it did not require the installation of specific software. Alternatively, the application could have been set up using a secure, password protected, web site. The application proved very useful during multi-party discussions on this project and facilitated timely discussions regarding subsequent steps in the investigation. |
