Raritan Bay is located along the southern shore of Staten Island. The bay is primarily located adjacent to Staten Island Community District 3. Raritan Bay generally is bounded to the north by Staten Island and to the south and west by New Jersey. Depths in Raritan Bay range from approximately one to 35 feet at mean low water (MLW). New York State classifies the waters of the bay as Class SA and Class SB . Class SA waters within the bay are generally bordered by three transects to the north, east and west, and by the New York-New Jersey border to the south. The northern transect runs from the southern tip of Crookes Point to Black Bout 39. The eastern border is a north-south transect from the southern tip of Crookes Point to Point Comfort at Keansburg, New Jersey. The western border is a north-south transect from Cupola at Mount Loretto Girls Home to Conaskonk Point at Union Beach, New Jersey. The remaining waters within the bay are Class SB. Raritan Bay is a saline waterbody with freshwater inputs from the Raritan River. It is dominated by recreational uses such as boating, swimming and fishing.
