Geographic Information Systems
HydroQual employs the exciting capabilities of Geographic Information Systems technology (GIS) to enhance our permitting, modeling, and design project work, and to provide a powerful new way of transmitting deliverables to the client. HydroQual also develops turnkey spatial information systems to meet the client's needs, whether they are for natural resource assessment, real estate tracking, or infrastructure inventories and management. GIS is also used by HydroQual to support our natural waters and watershed projects, and as a platform for custom database applications. HydroQual develops custom GIS applications on and off the Internet using ArcMap, TatukGIS objects, Delphi, and IntraWeb. Our GIS expertise covers the full spectrum of spatial data solutions that include:
- Planning - HydroQual carries out large, citywide planning efforts supported by fine-grained urban databases. We have completed a number of planning projects that incorporates GIS an integral element.
- Terrain Modeling - HydroQual employs digital terrain models to create simulated watersheds that support our nonpoint source pollution models, facilitate TMDL formulations, and provide essential data for creating sampling programs.
- GIS – Model Integration - We view GIS as an integrative data tool, not just a stand-alone technology. HydroQual is at the forefront of integrating GIS approaches with complex water quality and watershed simulation models that provide analysts with a seamless working environment that links maps, data, and specialty models for watersheds, open waters, or risk assessment.
- Asset and Permit Management - GIS and relational databases combine to make very efficient tools for keeping track of things and dates, from 130,000 storm drains in New York City and 30,000 in Boston, to hundreds of permits and deadlines for a solid waste utility.
- Three Dimensional Modeling - HydroQual simulates terrain and urban landscapes to illustrate analytical work and as materials for public presentations.
- Spatial Database Development - We create spatial databases by digitizng legacy hardcopy sources, and converting existing digital files. Our GIS solutions frequently are linked to relational database to provide mapping solutions for complex, multi-variate, time-series data.
- Internet Map Serving - HydroQual develops applications to serve databases and interactive maps at customized Web sites. We can host the applications locally, and provide updates and support.
