Desalination Discharge Anaysis
Desalination of coastal surface waters is increasingly being investigated as a viable alternative to groundwater withdrawal or surface water diversion. The impact of elevated saline wastewater discharges on the health of the receiving water and ecosystem is a complex issue faced by desalination plant operations. The complex nature of the mixing and circulation processes of the desalination discharge into the receiving waters requires the use of state-of-the-art hydrodynamic models to evaluate various engineering alternatives in desalination plant operations. HydroQual uses ECOM3D and other hydrodynamic models to evaluate the impact of saline discharges on the ambient receiving waters and ecosystem.
